Forgotten Stories Of Černovice

Za zapomenutými příběhy Černovic

16 April 2015 - German Poets From Brno-Černovice – reading from the history of Černovice

Černovice is not only Olomoucká Street, the Psychiatric Hospital and industrial zones. The today's city district has a rich history, willingly recalled by Černovice residents.
The first mention of a village of this name is almost seven hundred years old. Černovice almost disappeared under the siege of the city by the Swedes and as a result of it, also got obtained its rather German character. Great development happened after it had become part of Greater Brno in 1919, when a new district was completed around Charbulova Street and the Avion cinema building was built by Josef Kranz. In 1959, the first Brno's prefab housing estate rose on the eastern edge of New Černovice.

While in the Old Černovice town German-speaking population prevailed, the New Černovice district, rising from the 1870's going forward, spoke predominantly Czech. Local patriots recall the coexistence of the two nationalities with several events within the Year Of Reconciliation. Their organizer is the Černovické sdružení, a society founded in 2012, which organizes cultural and sporting events and farmers' markets in the district.

For example, on Tuesday, 5 May, you can join a guided walk dedicated to the course and end of the Second World War in Černovice. And already this Thursday (16 April) reading will take place about German-speaking cultural life of the district, which starts at 18:00 in the U Alberta wine bar in Olomoucká Street 148.
