The Dramatic Destiny of Zdeněk Rossmann – a lecture
Zdeněk Rossmann, a representative of the Czech modernist architecture and graphic design, was arrested by the Gestapo in Brno on 3 April 1943 and transported to the Mauthausen concentration camp. There he got involved in the illegal resistance movement. His fellow inmates were Antonín Novotný, who later became President of Czechoslovakia, and Simon Wiesenthal, organizer of the Center for Holocaust Studies. Marta Sylvestrová will deliver a lecture about how Zdeněk Rossmann got to Mauthausen, what was the cause of his arrest and transport. Then the floor will be taken by Mr. Janík who will familiarize listeners with the conditions of the detention and the role of Zdeněk Rossmann during the inmates' rebellion.
